This Easter weekend we went in search of the best rooftop bars in Rome. Not an easy task, but find them we did, from a highly recommended list of 15 from travel websites only 2 made the Court Club standard. Instead of just a hero pic and promise of a wonderful view from a rooftop we are delighted to share with you the bars that radiated a premium feel, provided mesmerising spots to sit back and sip your cocktails, plus our top tips on how to enjoy the ultimate rooftop experience in Rome.

Our criteria…
1).  somewhere that instantly made the noise of the city fade away
2).  a wow feel with breathtaking iconic skylines
3).  helpful and friendly service
4). (and last but not least) a price that didn’t make you forget all of the above!

Terrazza Borromini, La Grande Bellezza

It’s easy to get lost in the beautiful streets of Rome and seeking out a fabulous rooftop is made even more of an adventure when you are looking for an unmarked door, but the friendly bouncer outside the palace is a dead giveaway and makes this location an easy find. Head on up to the sixth floor, to Terrazza Borromini, where you will find an oasis to the chaotic, crowded streets below. This splendid terrace oozes class and style, with a members club feel, it attracts a metropolitan crowd and intoxicates each visitor with one of the most evocative views of the famous Piazza Navona.

You will find yourself set between the bell tower and the magnificent dome of Sant’Agnese in Agone amongst a chic crowd, so wear your best clothes and prepare to show them off.

The wine selection is extensive and they have a cocktail list to match. The barman gave us a wonderful description of the Bloody Mary mix that nearly had me sold but when I saw they offered a glass of a 45euro bottle of Nero d’Avola for only 10euros, my mind was made up. I can honestly say this was the best blend I have tasted, silky and smooth with subtle spices kicking through, it was an absolute delight. We were lucky on the day not only to grab a seat without a reservation but to be shown to a corner table, which is without a doubt one of the best seats in the house! The pictures don’t do it justice. This truly is one of the most magnificent spots in heart of Rome.

Les Etoiles Roof Garden @ Hotel Atlante Star

A short walk from the Vatican you come across the Hotel Atlante Star, from the side entrance you have easy access to the lift, which is cleverly designed to ensure you can skip feeling like an intruder of the Hotel and be considered by all your friends, as a savvy local who is in the know. Hit the elevator for the top floor, walk around the panoramic balcony until you find the few short steps to the roof. Here you will uncover without a doubt one of the cities most romantic and relaxing roof terraces. The hustle and bustle of the Prati district fades away, while the chill-out music discreetly consumes any background noise and transports you into their garden of tranquility.

Les Etoiles boasts 360degree panoramic views of Rome’s most spectacular and iconic monuments including: Castel Sant’Angelo, the Vittorio Emanuele monument, the Palace of Justice, the forested Gianicolo hill, Villa Borghese and Monte Mario, and not forgetting a knockout view of the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica.

The soft white cushioned couches invite you to sink in, kick back, soak in the rays and enjoy the cool rooftop breeze. Its big enough to not worry too much if there will be space for you, but once again those corner spots offer the best views. Although the wine list is appealing, with cocktails at 10euros, (the same price as most high street bars in Prati) you’d be mad not to enjoy a Spritz or one of their ‘Italian’s do it better H24’ cocktails.

Sit, sip and smile.
